What parents and children say about working with FCT tutors...

Parent Review July 2021

After being diagnosed with severe dyslexia and experiencing repeated failure within mainstream schools, my 8 year old daughter felt completely defeated and had literally given up on so many levels. I am so grateful to have found Mandy who is one of earths angels! She turned a very difficult experience in our lives into something so positive and rewarding. Mandy has a wealth of knowledge and experience with special needs education. She has been instrumental in rebuilding my daughters self confidence, resilience, attitude to learning and ability to focus amongst literacy and numeracy skills. Not only is she a remarkable tutor with incredible patience, her empathy and positive mindset skills that she shared in every lesson make her a tutor like no other!

Amazing GSCE results

Today, I am feeling exceptionally proud. One of my GCSE English and English Literature students obtained grades 7 and 8, moving up 4 levels respectively. It's such a privilege to be part of the learning journey and I couldn't be happier.

Feedback from Secondary Teacher
June 2020

I am so glad to hear that his tutoring sessions have been successful - it seems as though his confidence is continuing to grow!  That work that he has done on Romeo and Juliet is brilliant and he can use this when he is in for his next sessions.  I'm impressed with how well he understands the characters and how they interlink with one another, and the way that he is able to link this to context and the theme of traditional masculinity is really impressive.

‘Thank you for these reports Mandy – they are so informative and useful.
They are a great encouragement for R and myself seeing her making progress. R said to me today how much she enjoys working with you and wants to show me her work – something she never did at school.’ .

Mandy started working with my daughter whilst she was in year 4. She had fallen behind in year 3
for various reason and had lost a lot of her confidence and belief in her ability. Right from the first
couple of sessions Mandy had a great feel for how my daughter worked best and she adapted the
work to suit her style and get the best from her. My daughter felt an
immediate impact and her work
in school started to improve. Slowly but surely week after week we saw the differences in my
daughters ability, it was a real improvement and my daughter really enjoyed the sessions with
Mandy every week and looked forward to them.
During the tutor sessions with Mandy she also worked on some resilience
exercises for my daughter
to help keep her returned confidence at a level where it needed to be. Again the resilience sessions
were very helpful, not only with my
daughters school work but in her general demeanour and
outlook on life.
Mandy worked with my daughter throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it was a huge change to not

have her visit the house every week, working through Zoom Video Calling she managed to maintain
my daughters willingness to learn and stay involved with home learning. Mandy sent learning packs
for pre-planned video lessons based
around my daughters personal interests, this really helped my
daughter engage with a different style and way of learning in Maths and English.
Over the two years Mandy worked with
my daughter she regained her confidence in Maths, English

and having faith in her abilities again. It was a real pleasure to watch how Mandy got the best from
my daughter, especially during the lock down period and we will miss her working with my daughter.

Parent and child feedback

I have experienced many tutors over the years for both my children, Mandy however has by far made the biggest impact, she has a very calm and focused approach. Mandy is able to connect with the children in a way I have never experienced before. She is very thoughtfully and genuinely kind.

Mandy makes learning fun, she always explains things to me in a way I understand. She rewards me with things I like and listens.

I just wanted to write again to thank you for all the incredible work you’ve done with J whilst school has been out.

This the second time we’ve used Mandy for some tutoring. First to catch up after some missed schooling and most recently whilst school has been closed due to the pandemic. I’m constantly amazed at the thought and hard work that you put in to each and every session with J. And the incredible progress he has made during this time. After returning to school last week it was commented on by several members of staff how much more confident in reading writing and counting he has become. This is all down to you!

He doesn’t always ‘tick’ like your average boy and you are so intuitive and responsive to what he needs as a hook, and when to push through or change tack.

We can’t wait to get back on your books for the summer holidays to continue this learning adventure with you at the helm!

Mandy Coe has been tutoring my daughter (11) for several weeks.
But before she started seeing Mandy she was so low in her self esteem and was very behind in her schooling and was not getting the help she really needed in school. We took the decision to home school her.
From the first meeting with Mandy my daughter she felt so at ease with her. Mandy has made her learning so much fun involving everything my daughter loves, making her lessons fun and interesting for her. My daughter looks forward to her lessons now and feeling she can understand her lessons, as Mandy is decoding everything in a fun confidence building way that only Mandy can offer. Mandy truly cares for her students and is an amazing, warm wonderful tutor, that has bought my daughter on in leaps and bounds in a matter of weeks my daughter. My daughter is like a different girl, not full of anxiety for being behind, she’s full of confidence and she’s proud of her self, which is music to a parents ears so I truly can’t say enough about how Mandy has and continues to build my daughter's confidence and bring her on. A very happy parent!

‘Mandy – you are making a huge difference to her confidence and her knowledge.’

It is legitimately hard to put into words how much Sam has supported my son and improved his knowledge and learning capabilities.  He has now been with Sam for over a year and her initial assessment of him, to ascertain his way of learning was spot on, enabling her to tailor his sessions and get the most out of the time they have. He has come on leaps and bounds. His concentration has gone from a 10 minute  capability to an hour, he has improved at school but more importantly looks forward and enjoys his sessions with Sam. His confidence in his own ability has grown and he no longer feels like he is behind, meaning his behaviour at school has also improved. With Sam's help we now feel confident he can get through secondary without falling significantly behind or being behind effecting him adversely. Genuinely can not thank or support Sam enough.
"I would recommend Sam to any parent. She quickly built a positive relationship with my daughter and has made learning fun again! My daughter's confidence has improved at school and her teacher says she's far more resilient when she is tackling something new. She's also helped me too! She's helped explain some of the new teaching methods because they are very different to how I learnt. This has included the grammar terms also aspects of maths too. I can now proudly say I can do division using the bus stop method! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sam, she has made a huge difference in my daughter's life, learning is fun again, she's happier and so am I!”

"Can thoroughly recommend Mandy Coe above who I found via this site. Have been blown away with how fantastic she has been! Started using her before the summer holidays with our 10 year old who is dyslexic and I have never seen him so engaged and happy to be learning in subjects he finds challenging. Not only is he enjoying it, Mandy has really tapped into the learning styles that work for him and as such we have also seen huge progress with him over the holidays which his teacher commented on when back at school this week. We get verbal feedback at the end of each session and a written weekly report via email. She also liaises with the school so she can tie in with what they are doing. As if that wasn’t enough, she comes to you and is extremely competitively priced. "

"We were concerned about our grandson, who was struggling to keep up in his 3rd year at school. We were at a loss as to how  to help him, so decided to try a tutor. Luckily for us, someone we knew mentioned Sam, she came to see us, and we all decided to give it a try. The difference was enormous and immediate. Sam helped our grandson with his homework, which had a good all round effect on behaviour, attendance and attitude at school.(Plus some good teacher comments at last). I would heartily recommend Sam, she is dedicated, sympathetic and caring."

I have worked with Mandy on both a professional and personal level. Mandy is a calm, caring professional lady that will always go out of her way to help both children and parents. Mandy has great knowledge and understanding in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and has supported me on a personal level with my son who is on the Autistic Spectrum. I would highly recommend her.
